Apple has finally removed limitations on VoIP over 3G. Until now Apple users could only make wifi VoIP calls due to restrictions applied by Cupertino’s company to every software included into App Store.
This change is strictly connected with the launch of the iPad that support VoIP functionality itself.
The smartphone’s SDK has been already updated to allow developers start to create new apps and modify existing ones to introduce internet telephony over 3G networks on mobile handsets.
The very first app that allow VoIP over 3G on iPhone is iCall and Skype, Vonage and others should come soon.
Fring announced the new version for iPhone the past Jan 28th;
fring on iPhone is now available over 3G networks. This announcement immediately follows iPhone’s long awaited decision to allow third party VoIP applications running over 3G networks onto its iPhone App Store.

Recently Truphone announced to drop VoIP over 3g functionality on every apps also due to Apple restrictions. Let’s see if the will change their mind…
